The Consulate of Italy in Detroit, in collaboration with the Ente N.O.I. Foundation, presented a special series of conversations with Italian language students across Michigan schools as part of the Giornata della Memoria initiative.
Consul Paolo Zanotto joined students to narrate a family’s history of resistance, dedicated to the Martini Sisters and their secret network of aid, based at the Cathedral of Saint Anthony in Padua, which rescued hundreds of persecuted people and brought them safely to Switzerland.
The goal of this presentation was to share memories of resistance in Italy and offer a direct testimony, educating students to reflect on history and the importance of human rights.
About the Partnership
This event is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Consulate of Italy in Detroit and the N.O.I. Foundation to bring meaningful Italian cultural and historical programming directly into Michigan schools. Through initiatives like Giornata della Memoria, the partnership works to connect students with Italy’s history, language, and values, fostering a deeper appreciation for human rights and cultural memory.
